   Write ON! Writing Contest~

THE SEPTEMBER CHALLENGE: GETTING TO KNOW YOUWrite On! Online is pleased to announce our latest series of contests, designed to encourage you to give those
writing muscles a workout. There will be an exercise for both the non-fiction and the fiction-writer … and a
winner in each category. Since any exercise can do wonders to get you in writing-shape, I encourage the fiction writers to try the non-fiction exercise and vice versa.
GETTING TO KNOW YOUNon-Fiction: Choose someone you see frequently, but do not know very well: your mail carrier, a local store owner, your significant other’s best friend. Spend a few minutes, interview him or her, and write a 300 - 400 word profile. It can be personal or professional. Just take the time to learn something about that person and share it through your
writing. This is also a great way to practice interviewing skills and interpersonal communication.

Fiction: Choose someone you see frequently, but do not know very well: a bank teller, the barista at your favorite coffeehouse, your new neighbor. Study this person, and then write a 300 - 400 word character
profile based on what you see - or what you think you see. Who is this person? What does the body language tell you? What’s his or her story? Be as conservative or outrageous as you’d like. Just be creative and have fun! This is a wonderful way to create characters for use at a later time.
PRIZES1st Place: Both winners will receive a medium-length (or 21,000 word) one-reader iScript, and have their stories published on Write On! Online 2nd Place: Both winners will receive a copy of

Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript by Chuck Sambuchino, compliments of The Writers Store 3rd Place: Bookkeeping Basics for Freelance
Writers
by Brigitte A Thompson (Non-Fiction) Save the Cat by Blake Snyder (Fiction)  Submit your 300 - 400 word profile or character study in the body of an email to writeononline@yahoo.com by
Wednesday, September 30. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, in the
October Write On! Newsletter.

Songs2Share Debut Concert

Really excited about this one.  In fact, it goes with what Seth is talking about in his interview.  Getting in front of the microphone.  So let’s do it!!!  An S2S Concert Party has been booked at the Roberts Gym, IL 60962 on June 28, 2009 to coincide with the County’s Sesquicetennial.  We’ve got 4 artist contracts out with 3 verbal confirmations.  We are setting it up.  More details in next newsletter.

Where To Submit Your Music, Photos & Video……………………………………..

We’ve been submitting music to www.PumpAudio.com for years and got an e-mail today that they have joined up with http://www.istockphoto.com and now our music is posted at the iStockPhoto website for licensing.  So I read some of iStock’s website, the part under - A Recap Of 2008.  They claim to have issued $1.1 million WEEKLY during the year 2008 = royalties to their artists.  WOW!  That’s doing business.  ….

Check them out.  Last March when we made our PAH Fest MobiFlick we got hooked on video.  We just purchased our first HD camera.  I’ve been saying - video is here and very saleable.  Check out the video at this site as well and see if you want to upload some of yours…..

We will be taping our Concert Party.  All media catalogs have value.  You’re an artist, keep adding to yours.  That’s what we do.  Happy making music & art.  :-)

A Songs2Share Event January 15, 2009   Issue #2 “It’s where the music took us…”                     Robbie Robertson/The Last Waltz

Marsha Sinetar wrote a book titled “Do What You Love And The Money Will Follow”.  Over the past 2 years I’ve discovered I love working with songwriters, helping them polish their songs until they are the best we both feel, that they can be.We realize that a 20 piece orchestra will make them sound different, even better, but we’re after making a good song, not always a giant production.  All the songwriters I’ve worked with thus far have come away feeling the song was better after some revision, than when it was submitted.  I’m in the process of getting together a before and after catalog of S2S songs.  There are a couple of songwriter testimonials posted at the Songs2Share.com website under the VISION button.  So that’s what we’re going to be about this year—doing what we love.

___________________________________________________________________________

Karl & I made a MobiFlick at the PAH Fest Chicago 2008.  We spent nearly 7 days making a 6 minute video at Columbia College.  We told my brother Harry’s story about finding the sunken Lady Elgin in Lake Michigan.  It was truly an intense learning experience. This was the first time either Karl or I had ever split a scene or used video editing software.  And now—well, we just bought our first High Definition Video camera and are looking to record Songs2Share songs being performed. We also want to tell stories with video.  We want to document what we do.  We want to interview musicians and songwriters and make music videos too.So our License Agreement must change to reflect this new marketing tool.  We are now signing music videos to be licensed in hourly blocks.  The day is coming that everybody will have access to streaming video at their websites.***************************************************

Friendly InspirationsHere are 3 monthly ideas for song lyric, poems, instrumental titles, photos, video, short story or anything they inspire you to create.  Use the title if you like & make something!

1.
The Hidden Factors—Hidden factors are emotions/thoughts/events you get from making a certain decision.  There are hidden factors walking in an ice storm.

2. Mama Crow—When I strip chicken skins or cook a turkey, I throw the scraps outside for Mama Crow.  She’s a big black crow that has little baby crows.  We’ve got a children’s song titled Mama Bird if you need one.

3. The DosageDo you watch TV, take pharmaceuticals, alcohol, smoke, toke, flirt, text message, etc = what’s your dosage baby!!!  Are you a love junkie?  What is the dosage that gets you off.

WELCOME ~ Maestro Guilherme Schroeter has joined Songs2Share as a Creative Assistant.  He has worked two songs with new songwriters.  It is an honor to have this classically trained pianist from Brazil on our team.  He is currently promoting his music in the Los Angeles California area and is available for concerts.  Please send us an e-mail if you can help him secure piano or composing opportunities or contact him at www.MySpace.com/guilhermeschroetercompose.

David MacMullan, Terry Edmonds, and Moa & Arenla & Imli Subong = new songwriters we are excited to be working with.  Thanks for adding to our song catalog.  We’re doing our best promoting your work.

*Lori Hajost of www.artdesignassociates.com = Thanks for updating our Trixie and Danni Paris mascots.  The holiday attire added a festive feeling to our MySpace sites.  Perhaps Trixie needs her pink jacket on for the new website header—instead of the tank top!!!  We’re getting some winter weather in the Chicago area.  And you say you are not coming back dear cousin—oh what you are missing = -20 with the wind chill.  LOL

John Wu—Again we want to thank John for sticking with us, helping us get the website updated to reflect our growth.

Songs2Share Inc.                                                                                     Newsletter

More Than Money

When I first opened the Songs2Share song store website, I expected to sell song licenses that would earn our songwriters residual royalties.  More than that has happened.  The first licenses we sold taught me there is more to this S2S song licensing program than money.  The songwriters want to know who licensed their songs, from what country, and could they look them up on the Internet and listen to their music.  They also enjoy hearing the success stories our song buyers have performing their licensed songs.   The original songwriters want to share this information with their family and friends - especially their music friends.  Knowing that another artist connected with their song enough to license and perform the song is as much of a thrill as receiving the monetary licensing fee.  So we make it a point to keep songwriters informed after the sales of their songs.

Other Opportunities Surface

Working with songwriters and performing artists has opened the door to adding other services to our program.  We have posted a Song Opportunity Board at the S2S website thus creating community among songwriters and song buyers.  Some songwriters will exchange a sub-license to their song for a simple piano or guitar and vocal recording.  They will then use this recording to market their song and/or the recording itself if it is of radio quality.  This is a great way for artists to build their song catalogs, playlists and marketing media with quality songs that have been through the revision process, at no cost. The songwriter receives a recording of their song that they gladly spend the time, effort and funds to market.  A BONUS = the performing artist on the recording receives exposure from the songwriters’ and Songs2Share’s marketing efforts.  And S2S receives another quality song to post at the website for licensing opportunities.  A win-win-win situation.

Marketing Goals

Internet marketing is an art.  Songs2Share needs marketing experts to help us reach our goals.  We are currently sending our business proposal to established music companies who are in a position to partner with us and help us service songwriters and artists in need of song material.

What You Can Do

Visit the website and upload 1 song for our review.  The more songwriters we post at the website, the bigger variety of musical styles we can offer our song buyers.  The more songwriters and artists we service, the better we look to the outside companies who are visiting the website to consider if our Songs2Share song licensing program fits in with their business goals.

Always Available

We are always available to assist you in your songwriting or song buying needs.  Upload your song at the website and receive a complimentary critique.  If you need song material, visit the website and send us an e-mail requesting that material.  We are happy to send you an MP3 of a song in your genre so you can listen with your management team and decide if that song is the right one for you.  We are here to serve you – the songwriter and the performing artist.
