The Song Has To Stand On Its Own "Let's start with live performance. It's not unusual to have a writer/performer play me a mediocre-to-fair song and be shocked when my response is less than enthusiastic. He'll say, "The people love these songs when I play them in the clubs and, after all, aren't they my audience?" Yes, they are your audience and they'll almost always respond to a high-energy, enthusiastic performance, a heartfelt delivery, and to a performer with conviction and personal charisma. The positive response a writer/artist gets from a club performance can be very misleading when he doesn't separate the performance from the song. The writer/artist often takes his performance ability for granted. He may be relatively new to songwriting and writing songs in which he's invested a lot of himself. The songs, in his mind, take the focus and he consequently assumes that people are applauding the songs rather than the performance. When we go to a club and plunk down ten dollars in
cover charges and possibly twenty dollars or more on drinks for a
date, we're willing to go more than halfway to be entertained. We
want a performer to be good and we're easily pleased. Give us
a performer with the qualities mentioned above and we can be ecstatic.
Take the same songs on audio tape to a hard-nosed publisher or a
record company A&R rep who's separating the performance from the
song and looking for a hit and it's a whole new situation. These
businesspeople can't see the performance, be moved by the charisma,
and communicated to via facial expressions and body language; the song
has to stand on its own. This is particularly true for publishers,
who have to convince another artist to record the song." The Craft And Business Of Song Writing

Each Song Is A Team EffortEvery song posted at this website has been reviewed by at least two or more songwriters. Many of our songs have gone through two or more revisions until both songwriter and Songs2Share staff feel the song is the best it can be. Quality songs come out of the efforts of many creative inputs. Song Seeds Meant For You To EmbellishWe create songs that are dynamic, melodic and lyrically tight.
