"Trust in yourself. Your perceptions are often far
more accurate than you are willing to believe."
MY PERCEPTIONS ARE ACUTE AND ACCURATE "In times of doubt, I remind myself that my sensitivity is acute. I am alert and perceptive. I know -- and notice -- what I need to know. I register people and events accurately. My antennae are subtle and keen. Denial does not block my perceptions. I am accurate and intuitive. I am shrewd, knowledgeable, sensitive and clear. Appearances do not deceive me. I sense the truth, respond accurately to reality. I am pre- cisely in tune with my environment. I am grounded and safe. I am sensitive and secure. I am secure because of my sensitivity. It is a divine asset and I use it well." excerpt: HEART STEPS By ~ Julia Cameron |
The Art Of Civil ServiceIn 1985 I took a job with the University of Illinois Extension Service. My official title was 4-H Community Worker. It was my responsibility to make the community aware of the 4-H program and to increase enrollment. I also serviced school and community 4-H clubs. I was a creative civil servant helping new leaders start their clubs, putting together workshops and organizing other related events. When my second child was born, I left that job. I chose to stay home and create a relaxed, nurturing environment for my family. We started our own 4-H club. For the next ten years we had dozens of members meet in our home. We also had craft parties with school friends who were not in our club. I was a Girl Scout co-leader for a year, a room mother for three years. I worked with the unwed mothers' group at our church and the food pantry. I babysat for two families for about two years. I share this with you for two reasons. First, I know what it means to be a civil servant. I feel my job as Creative Director at Songs2Share Inc. is another form of civil servitude. I help the public get what they want. Secondly, you can drop your "songs" off at my house. I'll take good care of them. I have references! My own co-writes are posted at this website. I want them to move forward. We all want our songs to be performed and heard today and tomorrow. Networking ResultsWhile attending a writer's group at Barnes & Noble, I told a fellow screenplay writer I was working a script about a group of musicians in Chicago. I had written song lyrics for scenes in the script and needed a composer to write the music. I wanted to have a song CD to market with the script. She suggested her pianist friend. Her pianist friend and I went on to co-write seven songs. I began the task of sending our demos to music publishers and artists. There was little response, even though I enclosed a self addressed stamped envelope with each mailing. After years of sporadic mailing, I read a book about music publishing. While I understood the importance of a contact list, sharing fifty percent with a publisher seemed like a lot of compensation. Bright IdeasSky Music was founded as the music publisher of my co-writes. I began writing with several composers. Our song catalog was growing. Other songwriters asked me to market their own original songs. I kept sending the CDs out. I got a phone call from a music publisher interested in pitching one of my co-writes. I was ecstatic! He wanted some lyrical changes. We went back and forth. I listened and made at least three changes. My co-writer changed the vocal track. When the music publisher was satisfied, I asked if we could have a non-exclusive contract. He got irate. He said that I had known it was an exclusive contract from the beginning. I did. I just asked. I said I'd sign his exclusive. He said it was too late. He didn't want to work with me anymore. I was floored. I was tired. There must be another way to get our songs published. Work It, Work It GoodSo I started Songs2Share Inc. as a song license-marketing vehicle. I've worked and played at this company long enough to learn the contact list of a major music publisher is worth a lot. I've also learned that Internet marketing is an art that those who know how to do, do it quick, efficient and effective. Songs2Share Inc. seeks partner companies who will take the marketing department of our company and work it, work it good. Affiliate PartnersSongs2Share Inc. is also soliciting songs that are sitting in the quiet catalogs of music publishers. We will create the tracks for songs we feel artists will pay to license and cover. Your songwriter's songs move forward, creating income as well as servicing song buyers with the ability to cover a famous song with a track. We look to partner with other music websites that are servicing songwriters and performing artists. Post our banner at your website, along with your Affiliate Partner code that your artists should use when they purchase a sub-license, and we give you a premium for each license sold. We are contacting Recording Studios in the Chicago area, leaving our press kit, CD and offer of Affiliate Partnerships. This adds another value to the service they offer their clients. They now have access to an original (10,000 or less units sold by the same artist) or a previously released song sub-license with track = song catalog that will interest a portion of their clientele. They can also be advised of newly posted songs which they can suggest to any artist looking for songs to cover. By licensing a song, artists will be able to finish their CD projects sooner. That's how we see it today. Check our blog for any changes. Peace. |
